Amit Shah is an Indian politician and president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He rose to power in the BJP through his close association with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom he served as an aide in Gujarat. Shah’s political career began in Gujarat in the 1980s, where he was involved in the BJP’s organizational activities. He was elected as an MLA in 1995 and was appointed as Gujarat’s home minister in 2002. His tenure as home minister was marked by a series of controversial actions, including his alleged involvement in the 2002 Gujarat riots. He was appointed as BJP president in 2014 and has since become one of the most powerful figures in India’s ruling party. He is credited with leading the BJP to historic electoral victories in the 2014 and 2019 general elections.
